Joe was thrust into the spotlight as a teenager when he was identified as one the country’s brightest young talents having graduated through the successful West Ham Academy before moving on to play for clubs including Chelsea, Liverpool, Lille and Aston Villa.
He proudly represented the England Men’s National Team 56 times scoring 10 goals – with arguably the most iconic being a 30-yard chest and volley against Sweden in the 2006 FIFA World Cup which fans still celebrate to this day.
Joe’s playing honours include three Premier Leagues, two FA Cups and a Football League Cup. Individually he was named in the PFA team of the year in 2005/06 and won Chelsea’s Player of the Season in 2008.
In the latter stages of his career Joe played in the USA for the Tampa Bay Rowdies and started to get more involved in coaching the team – igniting a new passion and a long-term goal of management in the game that he lives and breathes.
Since retiring from playing, Joe has forged a second career as a respected pundit/analyst covering the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and Europa League and International tournaments for worldwide broadcasters.
