Jens Lehmann is a retired German professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Born on November 10, 1969, in Essen, West Germany, Lehmann began his career at Schalke 04 before moving to Borussia Dortmund, where he won the Bundesliga title and the UEFA Cup. He then joined Arsenal in 2003 and played a key role in their unbeaten Premier League campaign in the 2003/04 season, helping them win the league title and the FA Cup.
He went to school in Essen and made his German Abitur (A-levels) in 1989.
In 1990 he started to study economics at the University of Hagen and then from 1992 until 1998 in Münster.
JL played for DJK Heisingen and Schwarz-Weiß Essen between 1975 and 1987. In Essen his team was German runner-up with the U-17, which never happened before and after for a club in Essen.
He joined the U-19 of FC Schalke 04 in 1988. In 1989 he started his professional career in the first team of FC Schalke 04 in the 2.Bundesliga in Germany. After promotion to the 1.Bundesliga in 1991, he was a regular member of the first team until 1998.
In 1997 he won the UEFA-Cup with Fc Schalke 04.
In 1998 Jens went to AC Milan before joining Borussia Dortmund in 1999. He became Italian Champion with AC Milan.
In 2002 he won the German Championship with Borussia Dortmund.
JL went to FC Arsenal London in 2003. In his first season he became English Champion in an unbeaten run of 49 games over two seasons.
A year later the FA-cup has been added to the club’s record of trophies, when Arsenal beat Manchester United on Penalties.
Another year later Arsenal became runners-up in the Champions-League.
In 2008 Jens left the United Kingdom and played for VFB Stuttgart for 2 years.
After he finished his career in 2010, he added another spell in 2011 when he had his comeback for Arsenal again.
After his football career, Jens Lehmann started to invest into several companies in technology, education, nutrition and sport.
He finished another education by adding the professional football coaching license Wales and England.
Alongside that, he worked for Sky Sports in Germany and later for RTL as a pundit.
He started his coaching career for Arsenal FC as an assistant coach for the first team under Arsene Wenger.
After that year in 2018 he became assistant coach in Augsburg to learn the profession as a football coach, but learned about the disappointments in the football business when he had to leave the club after the sacking of the manager.
Jens became a member of the board of Hertha Berlin in 2020 and served as an adviser for the investor.
In 2022 he added another study of managing, digital development and leadership at the university of St.Gallen in Switzerland.
